Book Time for a One-on-One Meeting – with Yourself

The old adage "can't see the forest for the trees" is truer than many of us want to admit. After all, we've got work to do, deadlines to meet, customers to satisfy.
Nevertheless, we can't accomplish all those things without a higher-level perspective on our workload and strategy.
Jump off the fast track for an hour each week and give yourself a moment to reconnect with what's on your mind:
  • Review a list of all your projects. Are there some that can be put on the back burner? Some that should be higher priority?
  • Dive into that stack of trade or business magazines piling up on your desk. They might spark some new ideas.
  • Look for conferences, training sessions or books you should be considering to expand your skills.
Sometimes just getting out of the office for a block of time can clear your mind and give you a fresh perspective on your workload.
